Perception is Everything

Our touching as humans is becoming ever more infrequent as we depend more deeply on technology and the impersonal use of that for connection with one another. Societal breakdown is imminent, painting a sobering picture of an increasingly fragmented world, where intimate social ties, once seen as an integral part of daily life and associated with a host of psychological and civic benefits are shrinking or nonexistent. In bad times, far more people appear to be suffering alone. Perhaps it is time for us, collectively, to reach out and touch another, if only for a day. It could make all the difference in someones life to know that they are truly cared for.

These are just passing words,
Not timeless thoughts;
These are merely glances,
Not a passionate stare;
But if you should find yourself dreaming,
You know you are there....

If technology seems impersonal it is what you will find, then technology controls you. Any tool is what you do with it, a hammer can build or it can destroy, a knife carve or cut and kill. Technology is the same any of it it is a tool.

Are things breaking down or is it our own refusal to let go of the past and take with us that knowledge and adapt? Change happens one person at a time, so wish to change one mind others wish to remain where they are.

Indeed Michael, I agree. However, I would take the position that along with the acceptance of the current tide, we all can take a moment to touch another, help another, care for another. We let go of the past gladly, ready to dance into the future, knowing that technology offers wonders for all. And we touch others daily.

We are not so far apart I use technology to meet people to share art, to take political activism to a different level. I have power as one artist, if I wish to publish a book of my art I can, if I wish to talk to one person I can. Why would I do such a thing because I do care about that one person. My wealth will not be money it will be my true wealth found in the people that may gather to lay me to rest. For all of them I held some sort of value like a single drop of water.

Well put. Your last sentence grabbed me. Sometimes I get addicted to the impersonal. Foolish me. I need to renew my caring and let others know how much I care for them - face to face or as directly as possible. I think to give is to receive, and to accept care is a gift. Thank you for your message.
